The Buzz: May 2026

This is The Buzz - Mosquito Fleet’s monthly e-newsletter!

Dear friends,

The wait is nearly over – the Kayak Lending Library 2026 season starts May 23rd!

We announced our Kickoff Paddle on Instagram last week, and it filled up faster than expected; if you want to join the waitlist, you can do that here. Instagram is the best place to get paddle updates, but we’ll also do our very best to announce them via email simultaneously going forward. We apologize for the delayed email notice this time around.

Fleet Community Day This Weekend!

If you’re eager to spend some time at Green Anchors, we’d love to see you this weekend on Sunday, May 17th for a Fleet Community Day! Join us anytime between 2:00 p.m. and 5:00 p.m. at Green Anchors to help get ready to launch the 2026 season – cleaning up the beach, gear/boat organization, and some general tidying of the Fleet space. No signup required – just bring your beautiful selves! Snacks and drinks will be provided. More info is on our website here.

Introducing Affinity and Community Fundraising Paddles!

As we continue to build our collective and transition toward consistent community funding, we’re splitting our paddles into two categories: affinity paddles and community fundraising paddles. These categories basically existed last year too; this is mostly a formality for consistency and clarity purposes.

Affinity paddles are a place for folks with shared identities and lived experiences to come together on the water. These paddles are specific in who can/should attend, and are typically free for participants, with no suggested donation or fee.

Community fundraiser paddles: Community fundraising paddles – like our upcoming Kickoff Paddle – are a great option for folks who can materially support Mosquito Fleet, the work that we do, and the communities that we work with. These paddles are open to all and come with a suggested donation from participants ($10-$50 sliding scale; no one is turned away for lack of funds). These registration donations go toward gear repair and maintenance, supplies for protests and actions, obtaining new gear that’s accessible for all bodies and abilities, and increasing our capacity for more events and programming.

Second Annual QTBIPOC Action Camp!

Interested in kayaking? Interested in political art? Interested in meeting and organizing with other really rad people? We’re hosting the second annual Action Camp for Queer and Trans Black and Brown folks (QTBIPOC) in July 2026!

During this three-day camp, we'll learn kayaking, art, and organizing skills and grow a QTBIPOC community centered around water justice and collective liberation. This year, we will offer three different tracks for folks to participate in: beginner kayaking, intermediate kayaking, and political art.

The camp runs from July 17th through July 19th. Space will be limited; register and learn more on our website here!
